THE GOOD NEWS FOUNDATION HELPS CREATE A WHOLE NEW LOOK FOR DRESS 4 SUCCESS

Los Angeles, CA – March 2008
The Good News Foundation, is proud to partner with California Closets to provide Dress 4 Success in Los Angeles, a hard working, non-profit charity, with an ‘extreme make-over’ of its downtown LA location. For years, Dress 4 Success has been providing economically disadvantaged women with the kind of wardrobe they need to enter the professional workforce. The organization receives thousands of articles of clothing annually—including a substantial donation each year from a clothing drive conducted by the working women behind Los Angeles television news. Until now, however, Dress 4 Success was, literally, becoming buried by its own success. The volunteers were having difficulties finding the room to sort, stack and hang the donations that were coming into their small loft space located in the heart of LA’s garment district. Read More

THE GOOD NEWS FOUNDATION & OFFICEMAX® DEDICATE COMPUTER CENTER TO HELP HOMELESS KIDS

Los Angeles, CA – February 2008
The Good News Foundation, is proud to have partnered with OfficeMax® to help School on Wheels, a hard working, non-profit charity dedicated to helping homeless children, by providing a state-of-the-art computer learning center in their skid row location.   The Good News OfficeMax Computer Learning Center will be dedicated on Tuesday, February 12th and will bring together the community volunteers, the corporate contributor, and the city’s leading journalists—who have all joined forces to help educate homeless children who are  living on the streets and in the shelters of Los Angeles. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Good News Foundation recognized one of their own with the Lifetime Achievement Award—the incomparable Linda Deutsch—the court reporter of record for the Associated Press. Deutsch, who this year celebrates 40 years with the Associated Press, is recognized for her integrity in journalism, objectivity and consistent fairness on all the stories she covers. Four decades of covering trials for the Los Angeles Bureau of the Associated Press has made Linda the eyes and ears in the courtroom, relaying the facts, the feelings and the consequences of historic cases. She is a model for all reporters in accuracy and ethics in journalism and is a modern day legend and historian to all of her colleagues. Read More

RUTH ASHTON TAYLOR WITH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD


As a part of The Good News Foundation’s spectacular kick-off event, the Foundation honored broadcast pioneer, Ruth Ashton Taylor, with the Foundation’s first ever Lifetime Achievement Award.   Ruth has spent more than five decades as a journalist.  She began her career working for CBS radio in the era of Edward R. Murrow.  In 1951, she became the first woman on the West Coast to work on the air in television news. Since then, Ruth has undoubtedly covered every possible story in the Southland—and because of her dedication and determination; she paved the way for other female journalists to follow. Read More

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD TO KNBC’s ANGIE CROUCH


The Good News Foundation
recognized the charitable commitment of KNBC-TV Reporter, Angie Crouch, by awarding her our inaugural Community Service Award, for dedicating herself to helping AIDS orphans in South Africa.  In September of 2005, Angie took time off from her reporting duties to spend an entire month in KwaZulu Natal, working with AIDS orphans, abandoned babies and poor children with no access to health care.  Angie plans to return to South Africa to film a documentary on the plight of these South African children.  Read More
