CHRISTINE DEVINE

Christine Devine anchors the Fox 11 ten p.m. weekday newscast. She's won eight Emmys. six for best newscast. (2005, 2004, 2003, 1997, 1994, 1993).

Devine is known for her Wednesday's Child segment. Since 1994 she has profiled foster children looking for adoptive homes. In 2006 she received two awards in Washington D.C., The Society of Professional Journalists' "Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service in Television Journalism" and The Child Welfare League of America's "Anna Quindlen Award for Excellence in Journalism on Behalf of Children and Families."

Among Devine's other honors: the prestigious National Gracie Allen Award from the American Women in Radio and Television, a National Emmy nomination, eleven local Emmy nominations for reporting and two wins, a Golden Mic for Best News Special, and two Greater Press Club awards, Best Anchor Team by the Associated Press (1996), the National Wednesday's Child Award from the Adoption Exchange Association.

Devine was inducted into Arizona State University's Hall of Fame at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, and has funded a scholarship there. She also received the prestigious Founders' award for Young Alumni Achievement (along with baseball's Barry Bonds.)   Devine is a contributor in the building of a new journalism school and a conference room is being named in her honor.

At Fox 11 news... In 1999, Devine followed several thousand walkers on the first ever Avon 3-day walk from Santa Barbara to Malibu to fight breast cancer.  For the story "Avon 3-day Breast Cancer Walk, Journey of Hope", Fox 11 News was awarded the prestigious National Gracie Allen Award from the American Women in Radio and Television, a Press Club award and an Emmy nomination.

In September 1995, Devine wrote, anchored and produced "Dreambuilders," a half-hour news special that chronicled Habitat for Humanity's blitz week in the Watts area. The building blitz, led by former President Jimmy Carter, resulted in the construction of 21 new homes for Southland families. "Dreambuilders" garnered the Golden Mike Award for Best News Special.

"The Black History Project", Devine's profile of outstanding Southland individuals and groups in conjunction with Black History Month, received numerous awards and commendations. It was lauded in 1993 by the National Black Programming Consortium, as the winner in the news category. The series was inducted into the Chicago Museum of Broadcast Communications' archive collection.

In 1997, Devine was nominated for a National Emmy award for hosting the half-hour special "Elmer 'Geronimo' Pratt: 27 Years to Freedom" which included exclusive interviews with former Black Panther "Geronimo" Pratt following his release from prison.

An active community supporter, Devine has been honored before the LA City Council, LA County Board of Supervisors, and by the Los Angeles Police Department and LA County Sheriff's Department. The Sentinel cited her with a community service award in 1992.

Devine joined FOX 11 as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter in October 1990 and moved up to weekday anchor in May 1992. She joined FOX 11 from KVOA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tucson, Ariz., where she anchored the morning news from May 1988 through September 1990. In 1988, she anchored and co-produced the 6 and 10 p.m. weeknight newscasts at KLST-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Angelo, Texas.

Devine began her broadcasting career during college working as a radio disc jockey and tv weather reporter.. She grew up in Arizona, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Telecommunications at Arizona State University.
